Another wonderful little discovery from the days when making your own household furnishings was both practical and creative!
This pair of vintage X-L Latch-Type Wool Rug Needles dates to approximately the late 1940s and was designed for creating decorative wool rugs by hand.
Featuring an ingenious double-action needle-locking mechanism, the tools allowed the user to work loops of wool through a fabric backing to create textured rugs and decorative designs
The surviving illustrated instructions advertise the needles as Newer! Better! and reference Australian patent application No. 1426/46.
The needles have been stored in a vintage Summit Pen cardboard box, made in England, with the handwritten date 29 November 1946 inside.
