A delightful mid-century Japanese clockwork trick dog, c.1950s, covered in soft flocked plush with felt tongue, stitched ears and original ribbon and maker’s badge. These novelty toys were made to “beg” or “bark” when wound using the side key — a charming example of early post-war Japanese toy manufacture before plastics took over.
Although no longer working, he still displays beautifully and has all the right nostalgic elements: the original key, badge, ribbon and lovely golden plush coat. Perfect for a vintage toy shelf, cottage nursery styling, or as part of a mid-century domestic display.
