A beautifully sculptural mid-century Australian pottery basket vase in warm cream, caramel and soft eucalyptus-green glazes.
This piece has a lovely organic feel typical of Australian studio and commercial pottery from the 1950s and 60s, with its sweeping handled form, softly mottled glaze, and subtle drip detailing through the handle and pedestal base. The shape sits somewhere between a fruit bowl, console centrepiece and floral basket — equally beautiful styled empty on a shelf or filled with dried foliage.
While unmarked, it strongly resembles pieces attributed to Diana Pottery of Marrickville, Sydney, known for their earthy Australian glazes and sculptural forms during the mid-century period.
The colouring is especially lovely in person — warm honeyed browns fading into pale cream with hints of celadon green.
