A beautiful, softly loved mohair dog from the late 1940s to early 1950s – the kind of bedtime companion that once lived at the end of a child’s bed. Made in the post-war era, most likely UK or early Australian manufacture, lined in cloth with a metal zipper to the underside (typical of pyjama keeper designs of the period). The zip is now seized with age, as is common in toys of this era.

He has the sweetest sleepy face, floppy limbs and a well-worn muzzle and paws – signs of many decades of affection. Stuffed in the old style (kapok era), and covered in early mohair or mohair-blend plush.

A beautiful nursery display piece, or a nostalgic comfort toy for cottage-style interiors and vintage collectors.

Measurements:

50cm nose to tail

Era:

c.1948–1955

Condition:

Gently worn with age, mohair pile thinning at paws and muzzle, zip no longer opens. Structurally sound and displays beautifully.

Deb’s Note:

There is something so tender about the toys that were truly loved. This little dog feels like he has guarded many slow mornings and sleepy nights. He is the real thing – a proper mid-century companion, not a modern reproduction.
