Vintage Maling England “Peony Rose “ hand-painted pink floral bowl from Newcastle on Tyne, featuring a Springtime design with a pink lustre and floral pattern.
Additional details include:
- Origin: Made by C.T. Maling & Sons, a pottery established in 1762 in North Hylton near Sunderland, later moving to Newcastle upon Tyne in 1817.
- Production Era: Maling dominated the utility wares market, particularly earthenware jam jars, until the 1930s.
- Design: The oval bowl showcases a cream back ground with the distinctive maling ware swirls in pink, and blue, yellow and pink peonies on both sides
- Manufacturing: In the 1850s, Christopher Thompson Maling II introduced machine-made pottery, speeding up production.
- Recognition: Maling pottery is recognized for its decorative ceramics from the 1920s and 1930s.
