Description:
A breathtaking 1930s Royal Winton Grimwades “Hazel” chintz tea set — a true celebration of English Art Deco design and craftsmanship.
This complete six-person service features a perfectly preserved teapot with its original built-in strainer holes, matching sugar bowl and creamer, and six fine bone china cups and saucers.
The Hazel pattern is one of Royal Winton’s most radiant and collectible chintzes: a dense garden of roses, violets, and primroses over a honeycomb-lace black ground, highlighted with hand-gilded rims. The geometric handle and angular spout lend a distinctly Deco flair, bridging floral romance and modern form.
Royal Winton — the trading name of Grimwades Ltd, Stoke-on-Trent — was established in the 1880s and became world-famous by the 1930s for their Chintz Ware, a transfer-printed floral style beloved for its exuberance and charm. Each piece was individually finished by hand, making every set subtly unique.
✨ Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Colours remain vivid, gilding intact, only minor age crazing consistent with age. The teapot is pristine.
🫖 Set includes: 1 teapot (with original strainer), 1 creamer, 1 sugar bowl, and 6 cups with saucers (total 15 pieces).
💭 Deb’s Note:
There’s something magical about Hazel — the way the black lace pattern deepens the florals makes it feel like an English garden at twilight. This is one of those sets you’ll want to keep out on display all year round — perfect for a spring tea table or as the centrepiece of a vintage china cabinet.
