This stunning three-piece Dancing Lady Float Bowl Set was made in Bohemia (then Czechoslovakia) by Josef Inwald Glassworks in the early 1930s.
A sculptural centrepiece from the Art Deco era, it features:
✨ A smoky grey depression glass bowl with soft ribbed edges
✨ The original flower frog
✨ The spectacular “Dancing Lady” figurine — poised mid-twirl, graceful and modern
This fluid design is classic Inwald — stylised, feminine, and elegant — capturing light and movement with every angle. Pieces in smokey-grey (sometimes called black glass) are among the most desirable and rare, as this colour was produced in much smaller quantities than pink and green.
Used in the 1930s as a parlour display, entrance table centrepiece, or for floral arrangements at weddings and hotel lounges, these float bowls were prized not just for beauty — but performance. Flowers would be arranged in water, gently moving around the figurine… like a lady dancing.
