Before electric mixers and store-bought blocks, butter was a slow craft — turned by hand and made in rhythm with the home. This early 1900s cast-iron butter churn is a beautiful example of farmhouse ingenuity, sitting over a heavy square glass jar with its original timber paddle still intact.

These pieces were made for daily work and built to last, which is why so few survive in such complete condition. The square jar form is an earlier style, used before dairies became centralised and household churning disappeared from everyday life.

Perfect for styling in a country kitchen, pantry vignette or primitive farmhouse display — a true heritage piece with presence and authenticity.

Deb’s Note

Old kitchen tools have a way of softening a room — they remind us that food once came from time, hands and ritual, not hurry.
