A beautifully nostalgic English Caronia Ware No.222 vase, decorated in high-relief with a storybook village courting scene. These turret-rim vases were hand-painted and have a wonderfully romantic, old-world feel — the kind of piece that brings character and storytelling to a shelf, rather than just “decoration”.
The scene winds all the way around the body: climbing roses, timbered windows glowing with light, villagers gathered at balconies and a shy couple at the gate. Displayed front-on it presents as a charming little vignette, full of European cottage appeal.
Era
c.1930s–1940s
Maker
Caronia Ware, England — mould No.222
Material
Moulded ceramic, hand painted
Measurements
25cm tall
Condition
Well-worn turret rim and scattered paint loss (common for this style due to the castellated top). Structurally sound and still displays beautifully, particularly from the front and three-quarter angle. A true “story piece”.
Styling Notes
Lovely with dried florals, on a mantle or dresser, or sitting alongside old books and lace. Works especially well in old-world cottage styling or where a little storytelling charm is desired.
