Description:
A charming 1930s xylonite (celluloid) “SMOKES” box in a soft cream tone with its original embossed lettering featuring a cheeky cigarette for the “I”. These boxes were kept on sideboards, bar carts and writing desks to hold tailor-mades in style — a genteel reminder from the era when smoking accessories were designed with flair rather than hidden away.
Made from early thermo-plastic (commonly called xylonite in Australia), it has the typical aged patina and soft marbling prized by collectors of early plastics. The hinged lid opens cleanly, and the interior is clean and sturdy.
A fabulous styling piece — beautiful as-is, or repurposed to hold jewellery, keepsakes, cotton pads, remotes… anything you’d like to tuck away elegantly.

Deb’s Note
“These little smoking boxes were the ‘coffee table décor’ of their day — not hidden habits, but something stylish to display. I love them now for repurposing: tuck hair ties, tarot cards, coasters or love notes inside. A sweet touch of Deco-era charm.”
