Description:
Beautifully hand-thrown stoneware casserole with matching lid that can be used as a bowl, showcasing the earthy, textural glazes typical of Australian studio pottery in the 1970s. The soft lavender and oatmeal tones flow together in a subtle drip glaze, with incised texture and spiral detailing on the lid. The large handled pot has a wonderful organic form and a satisfying weight — ideal for both use and display.
The work of a Queensland studio potter, this piece features a hand-turned base with no visible mark, suggesting a unique artisan origin rather than a commercial production. The glaze layering and craftsmanship indicate a skilled maker from the era when functional ceramics met sculptural form.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
Dimensions:
Casserole approx. 26 cm wide including handles × 18 cm high with lid.
Bowl/lid approx. 20 cm diameter × 8 cm high.
Styling Tips:
Display this set on open kitchen shelving for a rustic handmade look — it pairs beautifully with other neutral-toned or ironstone pieces. Add dried hydrangeas or a wooden spoon collection for a soft, homely touch.
Deb’s Note:
There’s something so grounding about 1970s pottery — it brings warmth and calm to any space. I imagine this piece once sat on a country kitchen table filled with slow-cooked stew or steaming soup, shared between friends.
