Antique Victorian Parallel Column Large Family Bible c.1884

An extraordinary late Victorian “Parallel Column Edition” Holy Bible, printed in 1884 and beautifully bound in leather over bevelled wooden boards with deeply embossed gilt decoration throughout.

This substantial family Bible contains both the King James and Revised Versions of the Old and New Testaments arranged in parallel columns, along with fold-out maps, chromolithograph colour plates, biblical illustrations, concordances, and reference material.

The sculptural cover is particularly striking, featuring richly embossed biblical scenes and original gilt work that has softened beautifully with age. Inside are detailed maps of the Holy Land and decorative illustrated pages typical of high-quality Victorian presentation Bibles.

Condition:

Displays beautifully, though condition reflects its age and use. There is wear to the leather binding, age marking, fragile and loose pages in sections, edge wear, and some internal tearing and foxing. Please view photos carefully as they form part of the description.
