Sweetly sentimental and unmistakably Victorian, this Antique German Conta & Boehme fairing trinket box depicts a young boy embracing his faithful dog. Made in Germany c.1880–1890, these porcelain keepsakes were sold as souvenirs at fairs and exhibitions—hence the name “fairings.”
This one features:
- Hand-painted detailing in soft blues and reds
- Raised floral and scrollwork base
- Lift-off lid with original glaze and light age toning consistent with its age
- Maker’s mould mark to base typical of Conta & Boehme, Thuringia, Germany
A charming piece of sentimental Victoriana—perfect for collectors of 19th-century porcelain, animal themes, or decorative trinket boxes.
Dimensions:
Approx. 10.5 cm (4 ¼ in) tall
Condition:
Very good antique condition. Minor firing marks and light wear to paint and gilt commensurate with age. No major cracks or repairs.
Deb’s Note:
These fairing boxes once held tiny treasures, hairpins, or ribbons on dressing tables over a century ago. Each one tells a story of affection and craftsmanship—this boy and his loyal pup are especially endearing.
