A striking antique hand-blown black glass bottle in the classic onion form, likely dating to the late 18th or early 19th century.
Beautifully heavy with rich deep olive-black glass, this piece features an applied lip, pushed-in pontil base, and the soft asymmetry only true hand-blown glass carries. Under UV light, the glass remains dark and dense — consistent with early iron-rich black glass.
Originally designed for storing wine, spirits, or ale, bottles of this form were widely used throughout Europe and aboard ships during the Georgian era.
Today, it stands as a wonderfully sculptural decorative object — equally at home in a collector’s cabinet, library, map room, or layered amongst old books and timber.
A rare and atmospheric piece with tremendous presence.
Approx. 19 cm high.
Wear and irregularities consistent with genuine age and hand production.
