A significant early example of the British Pattern 1907 bayonet, issued for service during the First World War.
This piece features the original hooked quillon, a detail only found on early production bayonets. The quillon was later ordered to be removed in service, making surviving examples such as this increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors.
Manufactured in Sheffield, England by Chapman, this bayonet was produced for military use and later issued to Australian forces, with markings indicating South Australian service.
Details:
- Pattern 1907 bayonet
- Original hooked quillon (unmodified)
- Maker: Chapman, Sheffield
- Steel blade (approx. 43.2 cm)
- Timber grips with steel fittings
- Complete with scabbard
Condition:
Good antique condition with expected age and service wear. The blade, fittings, and scabbard all show signs consistent with genuine military use. Please refer to photographs.
Collector’s Note:
Hooked quillon examples are among the most desirable variants of the 1907 pattern. Many were altered or lost during service, making intact examples increasingly difficult to source.
