1970 Ampol Trial Competitor badge commemorating the 200th anniversary of Captain James Cook's landing in Australia.
It features a medal in blackened bronze (57mm), obverse, Captain Cook's bust left, around 'Captain Cook's 200th Anniversary, 1770-1970', reverse, plain except for impression of Cook's bust and maker's name, Wallace Bishop Factory Brisbane, mounted to a chrome and enamel plaque (58x90mm), with title, 'AMPOL/1970 TRIAL/COMPETITOR'
The badge was issued to competitors in the 1970 Ampol Trial, a long-distance rally around Australia. The trial was won jointly by Jean-Claude and Lucette Ogier in a Citroën DS 21 and Edgar Herrmann and Hans Schüller in a Datsun 1600 SSS.
